REDEFINED STABILITY

Stability means having the bike under control no matter the riding situation or prevailing wind conditions. Faster and with further improved handling stability, the endurance-specific ERC road wheels have been redeveloped, reflecting a more balanced, yet not less ambitious style of road cycling. Featuring an aerodynamically optimized rim shape with an increased 22 mm rim inner width, hubs with Ratchet EXP technology and the latest generation aero spokes, the ERC provide you with speed, agility, comfort and confidence, no matter where the road might lead you.

BEING AMBITIOUS ON YOUR OWN TERMS

Gran Fondo or short evening ride-out: The endurance-specific ERC road wheels are made for those driven by ambition and a hunger to explore. For those who indulge as much in the experiences made on a tour as chasing a couple of KOMs along the way. For those who enjoy a group ride but also quality time on their own, temporarily switching off and being in the moment. It’s for those with a burning desire to simply go further - on their own terms.

REDEFINED STABILITY BASED ON the AERO+ CONCEPT

When riding in real-world street and wind conditions, good handling stability of a wheel is key if you want to give your best or simply have the peace of mind to fully enjoy your ride. Based on the AERO+ development concept and in cooperation with Swiss Side, experts in aerodynamic optimization, the new ERC wheels have been redeveloped. They now feature a further improved blend of aerodynamic drag and reduced steering moment.

REDEFINED RIM SHAPE

The AERO+ concept is a more comprehensive approach to wheel development and optimization. Beyond classic aerodynamic parameters of translational and rotational drag, it acknowledges additional quality criteria a modern aero road wheel should meet, including its handling, grip, comfort and rolling resistance. For the reengineering of the new ERC rim shape, two major objectives were successfully pursued:

AERODYNAMIC DRAG
Aerodynamic optimization of the rim shape for further decreased drag values.

HANDLING STABILITY
Redefined rim shape designed for a lower and more predicably changing steering moment and smooth stall.

INCREASED RIM INNER WIDTH

The rim inner width of the new ERC is increased to 22 mm, providing the following benefits to the rider:

CUSHIONING
An increased rim inner width allows for the mounting of broader tires that can be ridden at a relatively lower pressure. The ensuing increased shock absorption capacity benefits the rider particularly on long rides with an improved cushioning of the wheel.

GRIP & TRACTION
Mounting the same tire on a rim with an increased inner width allows the tire to assume a more rounded shape which increases its contact area with the ground and therefore grip and traction of the wheel.

REDUCED ROLLING RESISTANCE
Wider tires also tend to have a positive influence on rolling resistance. Thanks to their greater volume they have a broader contact patch and can be ridden with less air pressure without risking a pinch flat. In comparison to the narrower contact area of narrow tires, the contact area of wider tires is “shorter”. Thus, the tire deforms more easily and rolling resistance decreases. With a modern tubeless tire this effect can be further amplified.

SIDEWISE STABILITY
An increased rim inner width reduces lateral flexing of the tire during cornering or while sprinting, providing more handling stability and steering precision to the rider.

AERODYNAMICALLY OPTIMIZED SPOKES

Already successfully contributing to the improved aerodynamics of the latest aero road lineup, the latest generation DT Swiss aero spokes are now specified for ERC wheels as well:

  • The wider but thinner blades of the aero spokes result in a further reduction of rotational drag.
  • The T-heads of the spokes guarantee the permanent, aerodynamically optimal alignment of the spokes in the wheel for reduced rotational and translational drag.
  • Due to increased compression during the flat forging process, the spokes feature an enhanced tensile strength for increased durability.

WEIGHT-to-AERO PERFORMANCE RATIO

The quality of the weight-to-aero performance ratio of a wheel can be judged by putting its weight in relation to its aerodynamic performance, based on its intended usage and the ensuing quality requirements resulting from it.

Taking these criteria into consideration, the weight-to-aero performance ratio of the new endurance-specific ERC lineup can be described as well balanced, supporting the rider to cope with a variety of terrains, street- and wind conditions encountered particularly on longer rides.

HUB WITH RATCHET EXP TECHNOLOGY

For the first time, the ERC lineup features the patented Ratchet EXP freehub technology, yielding the following advantages:

SUPERIOR RELIABILITY
Due to the firm connection between the inner ratchet ring and the hub body in conjunction with the ratchet, precise engagement is ensured.

LONGER SERVICE LIFETIME
The greater distance between the bearings results in a stiffer hub and less wear due to reduced deflection.

EASY MAINTENANCE
No-tool concept enables easy disassembly of the hub and conversion to different freehub body systems available on the market.

REMASTERED HUB BODY
Slimmer and stiffer hub body for improved aerodynamics and long-lasting durability.

SINC CERAMIC BEARINGS (ERC 1100 DICUT / 180 DICUT HUB)
For a low rolling resistance and improved durability.
